1. What is a Hotspot?

Hotpsot is a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) radio technology, which enables wireless connection of mobile devices (e.g. laptop or PDA or Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones ) to Internet or to corporate networks at very high speed data transfer rates.
 
2. What is Hotspot by Hotpsot-Internet.com?
A.
HotSpot by Hotpsot-Internet.Com is a public WLAN service providing high-speed wireless Internet access. This service is based on the WLAN standard IEEE-802.11b and supports all mobile devices (e.g. laptop or PDA) with WI-FI capability. If you have a wireless compatible (Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.11b) laptop or PDA, you can access the Internet or your corporate intranet at speeds up to 20 times faster than dial-up. The Hotspot access points installed at Hotspot locations transmit a radio signal to WLAN devices within a range of about 100 meters.
 
3. How fast is Hotpsot-Internet's WLAN service?
A.
The WLAN technology provides speeds of up to 11 Mbps, but the real throughput is dependant on the connection of the Hotspot location to the Internet and the number of users. Each HotSpot location provides users with speeds of up to 2 Mbps, but the average throughput varies on number of users logged in at any given time.
 
4. How does Hotpsot-Internet WLAN service works?

The Hotspot Access Point connects wireless network users to a cable network (e.g. Ethernet) which is then connected to Internet via high speed ADSL Broadband.
 
5. What do I need to use HotSpot service?
A.
A laptop or PDA with WI-FI (IEEE 802.11a/b/g) wireless capability. Some devices have this already built-in. If not, you will require a wireless PCMCIA network card. You can buy WLAN card from any major electronic retailer. You also need a standard Internet-ready browser on any operating system. No additional software is required.
 
6. Do I need to download or install any special software?

The only software you will need is the software driver for your WLAN wireless network card and an Internet-ready web browser. No additional software is required.
 
7. What can I access?
A.
Basically you can access any application and content available on the Internet. The services includes Internet surfing, sending and receiving of e-mails as well as accessing your company network via a secure connection VPN.
 
8. Can I access my corporate network?
A.
You can seamlessly access your corporate network, including your company e-mail and calendar, when you have set up your device with additional (optional) VPN (virtual private network) client software and the necessary security measures.
 
9. Do I need a password for using HotSpot?
A.
You do need a username and password for a use of HotSpot-Internet portal.
 
10. How secure is the connection?
A.
HotSpot is as secure as any other high-speed service, including DSL and cable. We recommend you to use additional security measures including virtual private networks, encryption and personal firewalls, while sending sensitive information via Internet. HTTPS (SSL) is the prevalent protocol for data encryption and is supported by the standard IEEE 802.11b.
 
11. Which operating systems are currently supported for Hotspot-Internet?
A.
Hotspot-Internet supports following operating systems: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows XP, Pocket PC.
 
12. Which browsers am I able to use with Hotspot-Internet?
A.
With Hotspot-Internet you can use MS Internet Explorer 4.0 or later , Netscape 4.0 or later, Opera and Mozilla.
 
13. Can I send and receive e-mails using Hotspot-Internet?
A.
Yes. Once you have been authenticated on Hotspot-Internet's network you can send/receive e-mails on internet as well as access your corporate Email account via VPN. There is no need to change your Email Settings under outlook. You would need VPN Client installed and login derails for your company's network.
 
14. Can I access my employer's email system and network?
A.
Yes. Hotspot-Internet provides unrestricted access to Internet. If you can access your company's email remotely with a traditional dial-up connection, then it will work with us. Many organizations allow employees to access email and internal network remotely. Please check with your Company's IT department for details.
 
15. How do I know if my laptop or (PDA) can work with Hotspot-Internet?
A.
Hotspot-Internet works on PC-compatible and Macintosh computers equipped with 802.11b-compatible wireless LAN card, sometimes referred as Wireless NIC 802.11b, Wi-Fi, or WaveLAN. Today's most notebook PCs from Dell, Compaq, IBM, and Apple are shipped with these cards pre-installed. Check with your IT department. Cards can also be purchased from a manufacturer or authorized reseller.
 
16. Can I use Hotspot-Internet with something other than a laptop?
A.
Yes. You can use anything that's "compatible with 802.11b wireless high-speed technology." Laptops are the most common way to use HOTSPOT, but...many PDAs are becoming 802.11b compatible. A vast number of companies have adopted this standard for wireless LAN. IT Companies like Cisco, Intel are producing 802.11b-compatible equipment.
 
17. Who should I contact if I am having trouble connecting?
A.
If you have problem connecting our network please contact Customer Services at support@hotspot-internet.com. Under normal working hours (09:00 GMT..18:00GMT) we would reply in less than 30 minutes.
 
18. Do I need reconfiguration on my Machine to connect Hotspot-Internet?
A.
Hotspot-Internet is designed to work under DHCP settings . We would suggest you to change your computer Network Settings to DYNAMIC IP address. Instructions for which are located at "setup page" http://www.hotspot-internet.com/set_up_instructions.php. You may need a FLASH enabled browser to view those instructions.
 
19. I'm at a Hotspot-Internet location, how do I get on to the Net?
A.
You would need Login details first time you register to our site. Our site will remember your username and password credentials after initial login. Note If you change your browser or machine, you need to provide login details once again Make sure you're at a certified Hotspot-Internet location. Look for the Hotspot-Internet's sticker on the front window. Start your laptop or PDA as you normally do. Open your favorite web browser. Enter your user ID and password from the Hotspot-Internet voucher you purchased or the one you entered when signing up for Pay As You Go service.
 
20. Do I need to provide login Details each time I visit your site?
A.
No. You would need Login details first time you register to our site. Our site will remember your username and password credentials after initial login.
